Here is an update on my efforts to have bionet.protista become a
moderated newsgroup.
I have been in contact with the managers of BIOSCI and on July 4 I
submitted a revised charter for PROTISTA offering myself as the
moderator for the newsgroup. Pending final approval (expected within a
few days) all messages posted to the newsgroup will first come to me.
If the messages are inappropriate for PROTISTA I will delete them
without comment, if they are appropriate I will send them on, unedited,
to the newsgroup. Thus, the rest of you will be spared the spam that
has lately overwhelmed us all. Messages will be checked Monday through
Friday and in my absence a colleague of mine at the University of
Georgia will perform this service so there will be no need to "rotate"
the moderator duties.
So please hang in there. If you unsubscribe now I will have no way of
letting you know when we are free of the spam advertisers. Also please
understand that until we work out the bugs, your messages to the
newsgroup may be delayed by a few days. In the end I think that we will
all benefit.
Thanks for your patience,
Mark Farmer
