	POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

	MICROBIAL ECOLOGIST


Position description:  The Department of Biology at the University of
Richmond, a highly selective, private liberal arts institution, invites
applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August
1998.  We seek Ph.D. applicants with broad interests in the area of
Microbial Ecology.  Primary teaching responsibilities include microbial
ecology, general microbiology, and participation in the biology core
program. Development of a research program that actively engages both
undergraduates and masters students is expected.  Applicants should submit
by December 10, 1997 a curriculum vitae, statements of teaching philosophy
and research interests, copies of graduate and undergraduate transcripts,
recent publications and three letters of recommendation to Dr. W. John
Hayden, Department of Biology, University of Richmond, VA 23173-9998.  The
