Postdoctoral Investigator:
Postdoctoral research position available in the Department of Biology for a
marine ecologist/biologist with interest in harmful algal blooms (HABs).
Successful applicant will conduct and participate in research on one or
more of the following areas: 1) development and testing of antibody and
DNA probes and advanced assay techniques to detect and enumerate harmful
algal species (laboratory and field investigations); 2) application of clay
flocculation to remove HAB cells from seawater (laboratory and field
investigations), emphasizing planktonic and benthic community impacts, fate
and impacts of released and sedimented toxins and biomass, and engineering
and logistical considerations. Desirable skills might include background in
phytoplankton (or HAB) physiological ecology, plankton dynamics, benthic
ecology, phytoplankton physiology, biochemistry, immunology, or DNA probe
technology. Qualifications include a Ph.D., demonstrated writing skills,
and an ability to participate in interdisciplinary research. Statement of
