I have been looking in the various culture collections for choanoflagellates
which have a protoplast of around 5 microns but with no luck. I would
especially like to get hold of a Acanthoeca spectabilis, Savillea parva,
Saepicula pulchra, Monosiga or Codosiga. Does anyone have these in culture?
If so would they be willing to donate a small volume of the culture.
The cells would be examined by transmission X-ray microscopy which gives
high resolution images (20 nm) of unfixed, unstained cells in solution. The
cells are still alive when the image is taken are should give some very
interesting images.
