Sorry for the cross-posting.

I have two students finishing their graduate degrees this year and,
consequently, one to three graduate assistantships should be
available
in my laboratory at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)
for
academic year 2001-2002 and thereafter. These could be at either
the
MS or PhD level. Although not limited to them, research areas of
particular interest are: 1) the chemical ecology of predator-prey
relationships (macroalgal herbivore, vascular plant-herbivore, and/or
invertebrate-carnivore) in marine or freshwater environments; 2)
chemical interactions involved in macroalgal or invertebrate propagule
behavior and settlement; and 3) chemical interactions between
microalgae or bacteria and their macroscopic hosts. One position,
which could be either in my group or that of a colleague, would
require field work in Antarctica and extensive diving experience would
be beneficial although not required. See
http://www.uab.edu/uabbio/amsler.htm for more information on my lab
group. Importantly, please see http://www.uab.edu/uabbio/by3.htm for
information on admission standards.

UAB is the third largest research university in the southeastern
United States with over $300 million per year in extramural research
funding. The Department of Biology Graduate Program has a primary
emphasis in the comparative biochemistry, physiology, and
ecophysiology of aquatic organisms. See http://www.uab.edu/uabbio/ and
links therein for more information about the Department and
University.

Please contact me <mailto:amsler at uab.edu> for further information.
Thanks.
