MARINE PHYTOPLANKTON ECOLOGIST
The Department of Organismic Biology, Ecology and Evolution
(OBEE) and
the campus-wide Institute of the Environment (IoE) at UCLA invite
applications for an open rank, tenure-track, joint faculty position in
Marine Phytoplankton Ecology. We seek an integrative scientist
who
uses a variety of approaches to document and study the roles and
significances of coastal and oceanic phytoplankton in relation to
local and global material and energy cycles. The successful
candidate's research program should include one or more of the
following aspects of basic and applied science: collection and
analysis of field data, laboratory experimentation, remote sensing
techniques, and numerical modeling. Current faculty strengths are in
marine biology, climatology, watershed chemistry, physical
oceanography, and pelagic, coastal wetlands, and chemical ecology,
thus facilitating opportunities for multidisciplinary interactions in
research and teaching.
The IoE (http:www.ioe.ucla.edu) is a campus-wide academic unit that is
devoted to interdisciplinary research and teaching related to
environmental issues at local, regional, and global scales. OBEE
(http://www.lifesci.ucla.edu/bio/) has 24 faculty, whose research
interests range from cellular to evolutionary biology. Candidates are
expected to maintain a vigorous research program and to contribute to
undergraduate and graduate teaching in both the IoE and OBEE. UCLA
offers outstanding support to faculty, including access to extensive
research and analytical facilities and generous start-up packages.
Please send CV, statements of research and teaching interests, and
names, addresses (including email), and phone numbers for three
references by March 1, 2001, to Chair, Marine Phytoplankton Ecologist
Search, Department of Organismic Biology, Ecology and Evolution,
University of California, Box 951606, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1606. For
