54th ANNUAL MEETING OF THE PHYCOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA

15 - 19 July, 2000; San Diego, California

ABSTRACTS MUST BE RECEIVED BY 25 MARCH, 2000

The 54th annual meeting of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) =
will be held 15 to 19 July, 2000 at the Regency ('east side') meeting =
complex of the Town & Country Resort & Convention Center =
(http://www.towncountry.com/) in San Diego, California, USA.  The PSA =
will meet with the American Society of Plant Physiologists (ASPP) in a =
'side-by-side' meeting format (admittance of PSA members to ASPP =
symposia and presentations in the 'west side' meeting complex is =
provided for).  The PSA portion of the meeting will consist of a =
Presidential Lecture, selected daily plenary lectures, organized =
symposia, and contributed oral and poster papers.  Poster papers will be =
displayed jointly with poster papers of the ASPP.  Bold Award papers =
(see below) will be oral presentations within an organized symposium.   =
Registration information will be released in late February, 2000 and =
made available both through hard-copy mailing and posting PSA web site =
(http://www.psaalgae.org/).

Submission of abstracts should be by Electronic-Mail (E-mail):

Send the abstract directly as text in the body of an E-mail message, not =
as an attachment, to: dmillie at mote.org.  Do not encode the document.  =
Your abstract will be entered into a word processing program and =
reformatted as necessary.  If E-Mail is not possible, a 'hard copy' may =
be sent by regular mail or air mail to Dave Millie at: USDA-ARS, c/o =

A fifty dollar ($50.00, U.S. currency) abstract submittal fee is =
required.  Upon abstract submission, send a personal check, =
money/purchase order, or VISA/MASTERCARD account information to: =

Facsimile: (970) 491-3568. A seventeen dollar ($17.00, U.S. currency) =
fee will be assessed on all returned checks.  Credit card payments must =
include the cardholder name, number, and expiration date.  The submittal =
fee will be a portion of the meeting registration fees and will be =
deducted from the subsequent fees (registration information will be =
distributed at a later date).  Final acceptance of abstracts is =
dependent upon receipt of abstract submittal fee (no later than 31 =
March, 2000).

 The abstract is to be submitted as a text message and must STRICTLY =
adhere to the following:

A) All abstracts must be in English.

B) In the subject header of the E-Mail, type 'PSA abstract'

C) Abstract format:

1) On the first line of the text message, indicate the TITLE OF THE =
PAPER IN UPPER CASE.  The title is restricted to no more than 15 words.  =


2) On a new line, indicate author(s) name(s) using the format, surname, =
first name initial., middle name initial., in upper and lower case.  For =
multiple authors, please use the format: Doe, J. J. & Smith, W. T. or =
Doe, J. J., Smith, W. T., & Wilson, P. B., etc.  For authors from =
distinct institutions, please indicate the appropriate affiliations =
using the numerals, 1,2,3, etc. (see #3 and the second example, below).

3) On a new line, indicate institutional affiliations of the author(s) =
in upper and lower case with, if appropriate, numerals (see the second =

Poster Information:

Boards will be available for mounting of posters beginning Sunday =
morning, July 16th.  Posters may be displayed until Wednesday afternoon, =
July 19th.  Each poster panel will measure 4 feet x 4 feet.  If the =
presenter intends to bring a pre-formatted poster, its width cannot =
exceed 4 feet. Type size for the title and author(s) should be large, at =
least 1 to 1.25 inches tall; all other text, as well as figures and =
tables should be clear and legible in terms of both size and font.  =
Posters should be readable at a distance of 6 feet.=20

 Bold Award (Students only):

 Student members can indicate if they wish their presentation to be =
considered for the Bold Award.  All Bold Award presentations will be =
oral and presented together within an organized symposium.  Bold Award =
