Micropalaeontological Researcher (Phytoplankton), The Natural History
Museum (London), London, UK.
The Natural History Museum (London) has an immediate opening for a
tenure-track Research Scientist to contribute to its palaeontological
research and collections programme. We seek a dynamic individual who
will implement a strong, internationally recognised,
collections-based research programme in the biostratigraphy,
palaeobiology, and evolution of a significant marine phytoplankton
group (e.g., acritarchs, diatoms, dinoflagellates).
The successful candidate will also be expected to develop the
Museum's collections in this area, engage in commercial and/or
applied activities, contribute to the Museum's public outreach
programmes, and become successful in obtaining grants to assist in
the support of their research. The Natural History Museum has
extensive collections in this area, including material from
oceanographic expeditions (e.g., Challenger), (former) commercial
research collections, and donated collections from noted
systematists. In addition, the Department of Palaeontology, along
with NHM research themes in Stratigraphy & Correlation and in Global
Change & the Biosphere have well-developed research programmes that
focus on causes of extinction and patterns of diversification of
marine and terrestrial biotas. The candidate will be expected to take
an active role these interdisciplinary research areas.
A PhD in an appropriate discipline (e.g., palaeontology,
palaeobiology) is required. The salary range for this position is
between 17,837 GBP - 28,564 GBP depending on the candidate's
experience and qualifications.
