We would like to ask for some guidance on the following. We are
searching
for microalgae that produce coccoliths (or other carbonate-based
structures). The ultimately goal is to set up a production system
using such organisms to mineralize carbon (CO2). In principle we
will
be carrying out small scale experiments in flasks and chemostats
(up
to 3 L capacity) and, based on earlier data, scale up the most
promising organisms to 25,000 L
outdoor photobioreactors. If you have a favorite bug that you think
might be useful for this work I would appreciate the following:
Name of organism?
Where was it collected?
Is it available from an established collection?
Would you be able to send us a culture?
What is its favorite growth medium, temperature, irradiance, pH?
Do you know under what conditions the organism overproduces
carbonates?
