POSTDOC POSITION (German IIa BAT)

The department of Experimental Phycology and Culture Collection 
of
Algae at the University of Goettingen (Germany) offers a PostDoc
position for three years (36 months) within the BIOLOG project
"AlgaTerra: Documentation of characters of terrestrial algae in
culture: rDNA sequence analyses, morphology and 
cryopreservation of
reference strains as a prerequisite to explore biodiversity"

position will start October 1 2001.

The successful candidate is expected to
- perform DNA sequence analyses with eucaryotic microalgae (except
diatoms) and cyanobacteria and phylogenetic analyses - analyze
morphology and ultrastructure of reference strains using digital
imaging software - apply and develop methods for cryopreservation of
culture strains of microalgae - write publications and present results
at international meetings

A sound expertise in DNA sequence und phylogenetic analyses is
essential and needs to be documented by publications.  Experience in
the isolation, culture and morphological/ultrastructural analyses of
algae is also required. In addition, experience in the development of
special software and excellent knowledge of standard PC software
applications is requested.  The successful candidate must collaborate
with other partners of the BIOLOG project.
