Key to the species of the Hypotrichida (Ciliophora) on CD-ROM

The CD contains a database of the Hypotrichida and a pre-installed
database search program. In a search request you enter as many
species
characters (search criteria) as you like, then click the find button
and the program finds all records (species) with the characters you
typed in; the first of this found set of records (including pictures)
is displayed on your computer screen and by clicking you display
one
record after the other (as more search criteria used as smaller the
found set). Then you can refine your request by deleting, changing
or
adding search criteria. The database consists of about 750 records
with about 2000 pictures. Each record contains the data of one
species
from one publication. Data are in 5 fields for text and up to 9 fields
for pictures.
You can also search for authors, years or nov. spec., nov. gen., for
binomen or only generic or specific names, any word in the abstract,
etc. (all combinations of search criteria can be used). Additionally,
there are about 60 defined special short search criteria.
The CD works on both, Windows and Apple operating systems (hybrid). A
beta version of the CD will be available in 2001 and the final version
in early 2002. Since this project is supported by the Austrian Science
Fund, the CD can be sold for 20 EURO including postage (about 20 US
