**************************************************************
GRADUATE STUDENT FELLOWSHIPS IN DIATOM
PHYSIOLOGY/ECOLOGY
                   US-UK JOINT PROGRAMME
**************************************************************

Several fellowships are available at Michigan Technological
University/ University of Essex to participate in NSF funded
investigations of motility and exopolymer (mucilage, slime)
production
by benthic diatoms.

The research will be focussed mainly on estuarine biofilms, and will
involve extensive culture work as well as characterization of
exopolymer production in natural biofilms. Most of the field work
will be done in estuaries in the UK close to the University of Essex,
but some subtropical field sites may also be used.
