We run Gap4 very happily on 16MB P133 systems. I expect that a 486
would do, as long as it had sufficient RAM.

upgrading?

I had a lot of difficulty compiling from scratch on Linux. The binary
distribution works OK though. There seem to be some odd cosmetic
problems in Gap4, but nothing fundamentally broken.

We don't use those parts of the package, but from experience with
other database searching tools, the performance will dive if you're
NFS mounting your data.
