Dear Colleagues: I am helping a local high school student with a science
project. Because he is interested in regeneration, we thought a project
with crawfish would be good in that it would avoid vertebrate animals.
However, they will not anesthetize with MS222 and when their pincers are
amputated, they like to drop the entire limb. He was going to test the
effects of retinoids but from a distal amputation surface. I hope some of
you might have suggestions as to an anesthetic and/or how to amputate without
having the animal drop the entire leg. I know this is a "urodele" network
but I also know many of you are widely read and have experience with
inverts. I know, we have to get into the library but in the meantime this
is the easy way to get help. Thanks. Roy Tassava
