THIRD WORLD CONGRESS OF HERPETOLOGY
Preliminary Announcement
The Third World Congress of Herpetology will be held in Prague, Czech
Republic, 2-10 August 1997. It will cover all fields of herpetology,
including paleoherpetology. The scientific programme will be divided into 2
parts with one intervening day of professional excursions. It is expected
that there will be some accompanying events like exhibition in the National
Museum "Origin and Evolution of European Herpetofauna" where both fossil and
contemporary amphibians and reptiles will be seen on the backkground of
European paleogeography. The social programme will include a beer party in a
medieval Prague brewery, a steambote cruise on the river, and a concert of
the old Czech music, and even more. A wide choice of 1-day trips into
various parts of the country for accompanyiong persons will be prepared as
well. Post-congress tours that are prepared by CBT travel agency will
include central Asia (e.g. Tashkent and Samarkand), sight-seeings of the
central-European countries, or Archaeopteryx and ichthyosaurs in the tour
through south Germany.
First announcement of the Congress with all necessary information was just
published as a poster and will be distributed to all institutions that cover
both herpetology and/or paleoherpetology, and to all national herpetological
societies. Individuals and other institutions wishing to get one should
write or e-mail ther mailing addresses to Zbynek Rocek.
It is intended to keep the registration fee as low as possible, in order to
make participation possible for students.
