POSTDOC POSITION AVAILABLE FOR A DEVELOPMENTAL NEUROBIOLOGIST
I am looking for a postdoc with a strong interest in neural development who
is interested on working on the development of the taste system of mice or
amphibians.
The focus of work in my lab is to understand how the taste periphery, taste
buds and the nerves that innervate them, develop. Currently, we use
amphibian embryos to address experimentally questions of taste bud
induction and patterning, as well as how taste buds first become
innervated. Our experimental approaches include tissue culture,
microsurgery, microinjection for lineage tracing, basic molecular
biological techniques and digital and confocal imaging. These studies have
provided insight into the tissue level mechanisms behind taste periphery
development. We have recenlty, in collaboration with Dr. Tom Gridley at
the Jackson Laboratories, begun an investigation of the genes involved in
early formation of taste buds in mice.
I am a member of a group of researchers funded under an NIH Program Project
Grant to investigate the development and function of the chemical senses,
taste and smell. This group comprises 6 labs located at 3 institutions
along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, including the University of
Denver, Colorado State University in Fort Collins, and the University of
Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC) in Denver.
FUNDS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR ONE YEAR OF SUPPORT. INDIVIDUALS WITH
EXPERIENCE IN MOLECULAR BIOLOGY, NEUROBIOLOGY AND/OR EMBRYOLOGICAL
TECHNIQUES ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.
