Query regarding HIV research

I just sat through a very thoughtful class, at least it stimulated my
thinking...If the Human Immunodefiency Virus attacks T-helper cells by
binding to the CD4 proteins using GP120 on its surface, why not develope
an inhibitor for GP120?
