---------Assistant Professor - Molecular Virology---------

A tenure-track faculty position in Virology is available in the
Department of Microbiology. We are seeking candidates with a strong research
record, a commitment to developing an independent, innovative, funded
research program, and a concerned interest in graduate and medical education.
This University, ranked in the top 20 institutions in NIH-funded
research, offers an unusually interactive environment. The presence of
several multi-disciplinary Centers and an inter-departmental graduate
program in Cell and Molecular Biology facilitates collaborations among the
basic science disciplines and between basic science and clinical faculty.
The Virology faculty are based in the Departments of Microbiology,
Biochemistry, Medicine and Pediatrics and current research programs include
virus structure, replication mechanisms, assembly, immune recognition,
protein structure and function, viral vectors and the development of
vaccines and antiviral drugs. These studies focus on retroviruses, including
HIV and SIV, (senior faculty: E. Hunter, B. Hahn, G. Shaw, P. Fultz, C.
Morrow), influenza viruses (G. Air, M. Luo), picornaviruses (M. Luo, C.
Morrow), VSV and respiratory syncytial virus (G. Wertz), vaccinia virus and
nodaviruses (L.A. Ball), adenoviruses (J. Engler), papilloma viruses (T.
Broker, L. Chow), and herpesviruses (R. Whitley, W. Britt).
The successful applicant could provide expertise in a new area or
extend one of the existing programs. Applications and inquiries should be
sent to one of the co-chairs of the Search Committee by April 15th 1994, and
should include a curriculum vitae, a brief description of past
accomplishments and future research plans, and the names and addresses of
three references:
