Previous experimental work on certain retroviruses has revealed
evidence for a diploid RNA genome. Does anyone know whether the
assumption that the genome of HIV is diploid rests on experimental
data obtained from HIV preparations or that it is simply assumed
by analogy with retroviruses studied previously?
