The procedure for connecting to our World Wide Web server for virology
is as follows:
1) If you do not have a WWW reader such as NCSA Mosaic, you will need to
download it. You can get Mosaic by anonymous ftp at ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu.
There are versions of Mosaic that run on the Mac, IBM and UNIX.
2) Run Mosaic. Go to the file menu, choose Open URL. The URL (address
of a WWW server) that you will type in is
"http://www.bocklabs.wisc.edu/Welcome.html"
3) From that point on, just point and click. Images with blue outlines
and underlined phrases are 'links' to other information (like a cross-
reference). Just click on them to get to move around the server.
If this sounds difficult, it really isn't. The World Wide Web is designed
such that all you have to do is point and click. It's a lot like an
interactive CD-ROM rather than a network utility. No longer do you have
to worry about file formats and how to 'download' files. After you get
past the first 2 steps, it will be relatively effortless. The hardest
part about it is getting Mosaic (or a comparable WWW reader).
