Green fluorescent protein
I have been playing with this reporter gene as well (in the context of influenza
virus). I have found it to be difficult to detect in mammalian (COS or QT6)
cells (other reporter genes such as beta-glucuronidase or beta-galactosidase
work well, so it's not my transfection procedure). Marty Chalfie says that it is
possible that it might be more stable as a fusion protein. I have not checked
for the expression of the protein by other means, nor for its message, so there
are lots of other possibilities. Any other experiences?
