Would you care to elaborate on the culture of the southwest
and how it has resulted in the emergence of this new (to
scientists, at least) variant of hantaan virus and the
increased populations of deer mice? And no, I dont have a
financial interest in ending rattlesnake round-ups nor do I even
know Paul Epstein or where he was quoted except for what I
read.
I am very curious about the relationship of southwestern
culture to the virus. And please dont tell me that the squalid
conditions on the Indian reservations where the virus first
appeared includes the presence of deer mice in the Indians'
homes; how does culture result in the virus having
waited until 1989-90 to make its appearance?
