<The Ebola Virus<
The Ebola Virus in a group of Pathogens called Filoviruses. These are th=
e
most deadly viruses to man. Viruses have are no even a cell, they cannot
reproduce in the way other cells do, by simply dividing. They take contr=
ol
of a host cell and use it nucleus and cytoplasm to reproduce, more and mo=
re
viruses will be made inside the cell until it gets so full that it burst
and new viruses are released. When the cell burst it stop functioning an=
d
dies. The newly released viruses will spread around the body and take ov=
er
all other cell the result will be massive haemorrhaging and the victim, a=
ll
tissues in the body are highly virulent. Ebola is mainly restricted to t=
he
jungles of central Africa but quite recently a new strain of Ebola, Ebola
Reston found its way to a Monkey Research Facility in The USA. Monkeys
were dying and nobody knew what was wrong. The sick monkeys were placed
across the room to prevent a spread of the unknown disease. But soon the
healthy monkeys were falling ill, it was airbourne. Airborne means that =
it
can survive in the air, this is normally due to a thicker protein coat.=20
The CDC investigated and what they feared the most was true, it was Ebola.
They monkeys were killed and the humans at the facility were placed into
quarantine. No humans died of this strain because it had mutated so that
it can survive in the air but also that it was harmless to humans. The
monkeys hadn=92t come from Africa, they were from the Philippines, nobody=
was
reported sick there but It shows that Ebola is not just restricted to
Africa. If the Virus had been lethal and airborne then this would be the
biggest threat to mankind ever.
