I am wrting a paper on the evolutionary ecology of viruses with an
emphasis on viral diversity. I wish to mention something about the
number of viruses that a given organism can be expected to be a
potential (or actual) host for. Specifically my question is this: Does
anyone know an estimate or guesstimate of the number of viruses which can
and/or do use humans for replication (humans presumably being near the
upper end considering amount of research per species)? This includes
endogenous, exogenous, pathogenic, silent, everything.
Thanks in advance.
