Kunjin/Westnile like virus differentiation

Hi everyone,

Just another inquiry into diagnostic testing,

Given the remarkably close relationship between the Kunjin virus and
Westnile virus genetic structure, I was wondering if anyone knows of a
simple method for differentiating between these two viruses (without
resorting to sequencing).

We currently use a PCR detection method, based on universal primers directed
at the NS5 gene (Chang et. al. C.D.C ). I feel that it would be of benefit
to be able to distinguish between the two viruses...

....perhaps someone has come up with a probe for each type??

>From direct observation of the genetic data, it seems like an accurate
differentiation is going to be rather elusive, without resorting to more
complex methodology.

Many thanks.
