Hello,
I was quite surprised to receive the following reply by email (I asked
a question about selection of a virus for the purpose of gene therapy)
>most viruses produce a high percentage (>95%) of defective particles
>and a low percentage of wild type particles (<5%)
So far, I knew that polyomaviruses were described to produce defectives
(DNA level) after entry into cells (nucleus), but from this reply it
sounds that this is rather a general property... (!?)
Is this view OK? Would it hold for RNA, ss, ... viruses too?
Independent of genome size?
Thanks for your insights!
Roland
