When you say meningitis as in 'can kill people in 24hours from onset of
symptoms' then you are basically looking at one of the batcerial ones. Its
those that have vaccines available (well some of the bacterial forms
anyway).
Viral menigitis certainly exists. THere's one viral related one called
Mollaret's Meningitis which is a chronic disease with Herpes simplex
lined up as being involved.
But when you start worrying about rushing the child to hopsital, using the
glass to identify the hallmark rash etc etc its a bacterial disease.
