Certainly when retroviruses integrate into host cells, the genome of the
host is altered (it now has viral genes). These viruses can also take some
of the host cell genome along with them and carry them to the next cell
(transduction).
With Epstein Barr virus-induced tumors, there is typically a translocation
of chromosomal material in the infected cells that plays a role in the
development of tumors.
