Participants,
I am trying to locate the original posting for the purpose of this
group.I have just moved and it may take a few days, so let me
summarize my intention until I find originial statement.
This board was meant to encourage the entry and the continued
participation of women in biology from both a scientific and personal
point. This is a very broad and difficult agenda.I think we are
witnessing the pains of finding our way and would hope that those of
you that have been unhappy about the postings hang in there and see
what we can do to improve the situation. I have a two immediate
suggetsions and I would welcome others.
EACH MESSAGE SUBJECT SHOULD BE INFORMATIVE AND NON-PERSONAL
I, like most of you, do not have the time nor the interest to read
every article in a journal. Instead, I read what is important to me.
Likewise on any network board, I cannot read every message but would
like to be able to scan something equivalent of a Table of Contents in
order to find what is of interest to me. Thus, I propose that each
message subject be formulated so that it is informative and
non-personal.
DISCUSSIONS OF PROBLEMS SHOULD BE KEEP IMPERSONAL
All of us face problems in handling feelings, behaviors and
expectations (our own and others) that we could use advice about that
is related to being successful scientists. Like an experiment let us
focus on the questions that is being raised rather than on the
personalities. For instance, I find it very useful to keep such public
discussions impersonal in order to promote productive interactions and
solutions.

P. S. My own personal interest in this group is for promoting networking
among ourselves and to promote the greater participation of women in
the scientific infrastructure. However, I will address those interest
in another posting.
