Re "waiting for the plumber":
For the last few weeks I've had a "wife" and it's been wonderful. Our 17
year old son spent 5 weeks in Europe earlier in the summer, and since his
return has been paying us back by doing shopping, household errands,
staying home for repair people, etc., i.e. all the domestic tasks that
normally eat up a lot of my time and my husband's too. Unfortunately he
goes back to school soon, as a high school senior with a demanding schedule
and college applications to face, and we'll be back to lunch-time and
after-work dashes to the store, and "please call me before you show up at
the house."
Yes, marriage under the old system was a definite career advantage to the
husband.
