Gentle Readers:
I saw the many posts about introductions, but I think I already gave
one a few months back, so I won't go into it again. I'm a historian
of science, with some interest in the biological sciences; but that's
not why I'm posting now.
To begin with, I too saw that bizarre little ad for "phone sex"
lines. At first, I thought I'd just imagined it, as it was removed
from my system later on in the day. "Couldn't have been!", I thought,
"I must have dreamed it, for I see those darned things on the TV all
the time."
But I also saw the posts about women complaining over offering a
"positive" networking/mentoring space...and some others too! It seems
to me that you've got a great thing going here (lots of women
biologists meeting/helping others in the field) and it would be a
shame to lose it. But with ads making more and more incursions into
the net, it looks like we're going to see this sort of thing more
often.
I have a question: what _is_ the policy about posting here? I've
followed the group for months, and it seems to be largely
unmoderated...anyone can post anything. May I suggest that the
moderator (whoever she be) structure the list so that all submissions
must pass scrutiny before they are published to the world at large?
That way, you get to keep your space, the ads and flames are kept out,
and the newsgroup remains what I really like...something _different_
from what I see on the other newsgroups!
Yours
Julian
