Well, I am involved in a group (AAUW), that is hosting a Math-Science Workshop
that is targeted toward 6-8 grade girls. We asked professioal women from the
area to hold a workshop and discuss what they do, how they got into it, etc. At
first we decided to focus specifically on Math and Science to include other
fields. We have recieved over 30applications, including medical doctors,
Scientists, police women, etc. We have many different fields represented. I
personally am a research Scientist in Structural Biochemistry at Amgen, and
am going to present a workshop. We are beginning to recieve responses from the
girls, but it is still early yet.
The purpose of this workshop is to get girls interested in Math/Science at
this age so they stay interested in High School, and hopefully college.
The workshop is being held on Feb.5, and I hope it goes well. I will post
to this group afterwards.
