1) Ultimately, YOU are responsible for safety. If you don't know, ask and 
   demand answers. READ before you work. Have the proper equipment. 
2) Exposure does have short and long term effects. 
3) Universities are different in enforcement of OSHA regulations than industry.
4) If you are not satisfied, don't hesitate to go "higher".
