I know the students reading this will thank their lucky stars that they
don't have me for a prof, but I would like to find a way to incorporate
formal oral exams into my courses on medical nutrition therapy. From time
to time in class I'll do what attending MD's do in med school-go around
the room and ask students questions on the material they should have come
prepared to discuss. This is affectionately referred to as pimping. One
time I even put on a lab coat to make the scenario look more realistic.
(Maybe next time I'll hang a stethoscope around my neck as well.) In the
clinical setting it's important to be able to think critically on your
feet. Any ideas from the faculty?
