science vs religion

Denise-I don't have a pat answer, since I don't teach evolution. When I
was in high school over 25 years ago, my biology teacher (who was a
regular churchgoer) purported that evolution dovetails nicely with the
Genesis tale (at least chapter 1-we won't get into the flood or the Adam's
rib stuff). The heavens and earth get created on day 1, the land is
formed, then plants and animals are created, and humans come along late in
the first "week". Since we don't know how long God's days were back then,
it could correlate with the timeline that scientists have constructed from
the geological record.
