Statistically speaking the best way to test this is to take the number of
women in science as a % (someone on this list must know) and the number of
papers by female authors as a %. If the 2 numbers match up there's no
discrimination.
However, are you talking about first author or last author? If this
problem exists (proof in stat's please, not just hearsay) is it more of a
problem for young authors if their senior/final author is
male/female? What about a young male author with a senior female
author? What about people who publish with initials and a surname so as
not to give away the game (of whom I know plenty, both male and female)?
