"Letters to Ms. Mentor: Should You be Pal, Peacock, or Czar?," a
lecture by Emily Toth on teaching, will be held Thursday, Sept. 23, at
4 p.m. in 207 White Hall.
Toth is professor of English and Women's Studies at Louisiana State
University, and her lecture is sponsored by the new Massee-Martin/NEH
Teaching chair. She has written Ms. Mentor's Impeccable Advice for
Women in Academia, which she says is an "advice and humor book for
women professors, graduate students, recovering academics, and those
who love them." She is also the "Ms. Mentor" columnist for The
Chronicle of Higher Education's career network and has written monthly
columns for the past year on such topics as "What to Do When You're
Team-Teaching with Bozos" and "Whose Career Should Be Number Two."
Toth was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for her biography of author
Kate Chopin and will lecture on "Rewriting Kate Chopin's Life: What We
See is What We Are" on Friday, Sept. 24, at 3 p.m. in 207 White Hall,
Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia.
