There is some good news on women scientists working their way into the
upper echelons of science. Here at the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical
Research, a non-profit private research institute, our department of
virology chair and one of the leading scientists in the virology department
working in our new biosafely level 4 lab are both women. Very prestigious
positions considering there are only 4 such labs in the country (this is
the only non-government run lab) and the nature of the research is very
high profile/high risk. If you are interested, The Houston chronicle has an
article online about the Southwest Foundation's new virology laboratories
and the scientists involved with the research. The article "Bringing a Hot
Lab to life "is online at http://www.chron.com/content/chronicle/texas/
