maternity leave-paid or not?

Yes, indeed.  At the Univ. of Washington for anyone who has been employed
for at least 1 year prior to taking leave, up to 90 calendar days paid
maternity leave may be requested.  The leave only covers time that the job
contract covers.  Some information on policies is on the web; see:
