Hi Debbie,
I agree with everybody's advice: dont feel guilty if you want to study and
you can't take care of your family the same way as before. BUT! Be sure that
everybody understands your motive, and agrees to help out mom to go through
this period. If your family (especially your husband) clearly understands
your needs and expectations, and they are willing to help, there should not
be a problem. If they don't ... well that's a whole other issue, and you may
need superb phychological skills to navigate them to comply your way.
For my background: I'm a PhD and doing research in mol. biol, have a husband
and an eight year old son. Me and my husband went through college at the
same time, got married, both of us got PhD, then had the kid. I'm working as
a postdoc since, but as years pass, I find the inequality in doing housework
more and more annoying. But maybe it's just me getting old, pre-menopausal,
and weak in spirit.
Best luck,
Jo
