Laboratory Technician, Plant Molecular Systematics
A position for a Bachelor's- or Master's- level technician will be
available in the Plant Molecular
Systematics (Delwiche) laboratory starting early- to mid- July of this
year. The Delwiche lab uses molecular biological techniques to infer the
early evolution of photosynthetic organisms. The
technician will be expected to provide support for the general operation of
the laboratory and will have the opportunity to perform independent
research. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: basic
molecular methods (DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, cloning, DNA
sequencing, Southern hybridization, and RNA work), maintenance of algal
cultures, computer analysis of DNA sequences, and clerical work
associated with laboratory operation. The successful applicant will have a
bachelor's degree in the biological sciences or a related field, and should
have prior laboratory or analytical experience. Preference will be given to
candidates with a background in phycology, botany, non-parasitic
protistology, or bioinformatics. Salary will be commensurate with
experience, in the range of $25 - 35,000, and will include health care,
retirement, and vacation benefits. This will be a full-time, one year
contract, renewable annually for at least two years. Applicants should
