The Eastern Region of the USDA Forest Service is currently advertising for
an Ecosystem Planning Biologist located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This
position is being advertised in multiple series (Ecology - 408, Botany -
430, Fish - 482, Wildlife - 486) GS-12/13. It is also being advertised
under the Forest Service "Demo" authority which allows
non-Federal-government or government-term-appointees to apply.
The incumbent provides ecosystem assessments and forest planning expertise
for the Eastern Region, coordination of wildlife and ecosystem planning
issues with the management of other resources, and serves as a member of
the Region's Forest Plan Revision Core Team.
The position is in the Regional Office's newly aligned Renewable Resources
staff group consisting of vegetation management, fisheries, wildlife, rare
plants, range, and ecology. The incumbent reports to the Deputy Director
of the group.
Currently, 14 out of 15 field units in the Region are underway in Forest
Plan revision. Plan revision is one of five regional priorities and all
revisions are expected to be completed within three years. The work will
be exciting and fast-paced. Plan revision emphasis will be on Management
Indicator Species, species viability, and integration of ecosystem issues
into Forest Plans.
Region 9's highly integrated and innovative work environment is

across staffs to be involved in Forest Planning, the National Fire Plan,
the Healthy Forests Initiative, and Process Predicament.
