Research Plant Geneticist.  The U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA),
Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Plant Science Research Unit, Raleigh,
NC is seeking a permanent full-time Research Plant Geneticist (GS12/13) to
understand the molecular basis of complex traits in maize.  Research will be
conducted independently and in collaboration with other scientists.  The
major objective of this research is to understand, identify and manipulate
the genetic factors responsible for quantitative variation. Specifically,
the objectives include understanding the genetic basis of complex traits in
maize; understanding quantitative variation as it relates to the use of
ancestral and landrace genes in maize and other cereal crops; and the
development of methodologies that will enable improved marker-assisted
selection of key quantitative traits in cereals.  Salary range of $57,556 to
