X-PLOR 3.84x maps

The only thing that has changed is the additional scaling information
at the end of the file.  Try to remove the last line (after the -9999). 
You
can write a simple unix script if this turns out to be the problem.  

Our version of MAPMAN works fine with the new maps.  We have been using
the new maps extensively for over a year without any problems.
