Post-doctoral position
Albert Einstein College of Medicine
Department: Biochemistry
Location: Bronx, New York
Start Date: Immediately
Duration: 1 yr, renewable
Description: A postdoctoral position is available to work on the crystallization and
three-dimensional structure determination of enzymes of the biosynthetic
pathway that leads to diaminopimelic acid and lysine in bacteria. Enzymes
of this pathway represent an attractive target for anti-bacterial inhibitor
design. Most of the enzyme in the pathway have been cloned from different
sources and quantities of pure, overexpressed protein are available. The work
will involve solving the structure of these enzymes, as well as conducting
studies on complexes of the enzymes with inhibitors. The laboratory is
equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for X-ray crystallography and
biochemistry. Experience in macromolecular crystallography is required. Salary
will depend on experience.
