POSTDOC/PREDOC POSITIONS
Structural Biology
Max Planck Institute for Medical Research, Heidelberg
One senior postdoctoral position (BAT IIa) and two European Union-funded
positions (postdoctoral and/or predoctoral) are available in a newly
established research group on Ion Channel Structure at the Max Planck
Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg, Germany. Our research
focuses on structure determination and structure-function relationships
of glutamate receptor ion channels recombinantly expressed using the
baculovirus system. Potential research topics include, but are not
limited to:
® Crystallization and crystal structure determination of soluble
extracellular ligand-binding domains of the AMPA receptor GluRB.
® Expression, 2D crystallization, and single-particle electron
microscopic analysis of the intact recombinantly expressed AMPA
receptors GluRB and GluRD.
® Spectroscopic analysis of conformational changes associated with
channel gating and inactivation.
The positions are funded initially for a period of two years each. The
research group currently consists of one postdoc, two graduate students,
and a technician and shares the X-ray diffraction, computer, and
electron microscopy facilities of the Biophysics Department (2 Siemens
area detectors, GX18 anode, Zeiss EM 902 and 912 microscopes). We will
occupy newly renovated lab space with biochemistry and cell culture
facilities. Technical support is available. International candidates
are encouraged to apply.
The application deadline is May 30, 1997. Applications including a cv,
list of publications, and the names of 3 references should be sent to:
