computer program to measure areas

I would appreciate very much if anyone could help me out.

	I am looking for a program that measures the area of a shape.
Specifically I have scanned a map and I want to measure some dozens of
areas that are formed from the in between lines.

Is there a program that does it. Corel 7, Photoshop perhaps ....
