POST-DOCTORAL POSITION IN MACROMOLECULAR CRYSTALLOGRAPHY AT STOCKHOLM
UNIVERSITY

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position in the group of Dr.
Derek Logan in the Biochemistry Department at Stockholm University, Sweden.
The available projects involve crystal structure determination of an enzyme
involved in the "stringent response" of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (with
possible applications in development of novel antimycobacterial strategies)
and of several proteins participating in RNA folding processes. Candidates
should have a strong interest in structural biology, especially protein
crystallography. Experience in molecular biology and protein and/or RNA
purification is a distinct advantage. Funding is available from Jan. 2000
onwards, but candidates may be able to start earlier.

Dr. Logan¹s group is one of four groups making up a dynamic structural
biology centre at Stockholm University; the others are Prof. Pär Nordlund
and Drs. Marjolein Thunnissen and Darcy Birse). The laboratory has excellent
equipment for all stages of structure determination, from cloning through
state-of-the-art purification (including 3 Äkta FPLC systems) and
crystallisation to X-ray data collection and computing. The group
encompasses expertise in all these areas. We have regular access to
synchrotron radiation at a number of world facilities. The structural
biology centre currently contains members from Sweden, Germany, Canada,
India, Cuba, USA, the UK and the Netherlands. The Biochemistry Department
has over 120 members with a wide range of research interests.

Interested candidates should send their CV and the names and addresses of
three referees to:
