Position Open: Research Specialist 2

Job Description: Manage and maintain common protein x-ray diffraction
facility for structural biology group comprising five laboratories at
U.T. Southwestern. Equipment includes three rotating anode x-ray
generators, four image-plate detectors, and four liquid nitrogen
cryocooling systems, and associated computing hardware and softwared.
The successful candidate will have had hands on experience in
configuring, setting up and maintaining a protein x-ray diffraction
facility, particularly, not not limited to: rotating anode x-ray
generator trouble shooting, repair and maintenance of x-ray generators,
x-ray image plate detectors, single crystal and concentric x-ray
monochromators, cryo-cooling systems, computer control interfaces for
the above.  The Research Specialist must have experience in small
molecule or (preferably) macromolecular crystallography, a background in
basic electronics, possess precision machining skills, be familiar with
the UNIX operating system and hardware/software interfaces that run
under UNIX. Candidate must also be able to communicate effectively with
large and diverse group of scientists, maintain accurate records,
generate effective reports, assist in the preparation of and co-manage
the annual budget for the facility.
Salary: $43.500/yr + benefits. HHMI is an equal opportunity employer.
