Please post the following two positions on your bulletin boards.

Thank you.

<fontfamily><param>Times</param><bigger><bigger><bigger>Two HHMI
positions for Research Specialists

at synchrotron sources

</bigger>1. An HHMI position is open for a senior staff scientist at
MacCHESS (the

macromolecular component at the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source,
Cornell University, Ithaca NY). The successful applicant will be

responsible for software development, including data processing
software

for MAD and other applications, graphical user interfaces, data
collection

strategy and internet applications related to data collection. In
addition

to software development responsibilities, the senior staff scientist
will

work directly with selected user groups (including but not restricted
to

HHMI investigators) to implement and improve these and other software

applications. He/she will also work closely with other MacCHESS staff
and

will report to the director of MacCHESS. Candidates should have a
strong

background in experimental x-ray crystallography or a related field at
the

graduate or postdoctoral level; previous experience with synchrotron

radiation data collection is highly desirable. Send letter describing
interest in the position, CV, and names of three references to Stephen
C. Harrison, HHMI/Harvard University, 7 Divinity Avenue, Cambridge , MA
 02138

2. An HHMI position is open for a User Support Specialist at BioCARS,
a

structural biology synchrotron radiation resource at the Advanced
Photon

Source, Argonne National Laboratory, Illinois. The successful
applicant

will: support structural biology users of the facility (including but
not

restricted to HHMI investigators) in their work on the three BioCARS

experimental stations at Sector 14 of APS; act as the primary
interface

between the structural biology user and the experimental station;
train

users in effective use of beamline instrumentation and its control
software

for data acquisition; maintain performance of constructed and
commercial

instrumentation by troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment and
calibrating hardware and software. Experience in computer-controlled
data acquisition is required, and experience in the manipulation of
large data sets is highly desirable. Strong interpersonal
communication skills are essential in this demanding environment, which
includes shift work. A bachelor's degree in a quantitative science is
required, and graduate or postdoctoral experience is preferred. The
selected candidate will work closely with other BioCARS staff and will
report to the CARS Associate Director and Project Manager for BioCARS.
